Stump Cross Caverns

Stump Cross Caverns is designated as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). It has some amazing natural cave formations. Formed 350 million years ago in a shallow sea, the limestone has been shaped by dripping water for hundreds of thousands of years. These spectacular shapes take the form of sparkling stalactites and stalagmites. Add some spectacular lighting and a descent into the caves becomes a truely memorable experience for the visitor. The cave was discovered in 1860 by some lead miners. Further exploration of the cave shows that the system extends over 4 miles (6km) in length.
